“A striking expression of our values”: Wilo opens Health Cube

Wilo employees in Dortmund and worldwide as well as the entire region will benefit from the Health Cube.

New health centre for Wilo’s global workforce and the region

Dortmund. The Wilo Group has opened the new Health Cube at its headquarters, Wilopark in Dortmund. At around 5,500 square metres, the health centre offers space for Wilo’s Global Health Management, including occupational health and psychotherapeutic services, social and life counselling, the Health Club with sports diagnostics and outdoor sports facilities, a “quiet room”, hydro massage beds, a lounge with an open, experiential kitchen, and holiday care for children.

Independent specialist medical practices, such as dermatology, physiotherapy and dentistry, are a central component of the Health Cube. Further GP and specialist services will be added in future. Wilo’s concept is fully focused on preventative services, while the equipment is based on high-tech devices with AI integration. Wilo employees worldwide as well as the entire region will benefit from this innovative health centre.

“The construction of this state-of-the-art healthcare facility is not only driven by our overarching strategy, but also by our history: improving healthcare and thus people’s quality of life has always been a driving force over Wilo’s 154-year history”, said Oliver Hermes, President & Global CEO of the Wilo Group, at the inauguration ceremony. “We are not just opening a building today. We are celebrating an attitude – and emphasising our high level of corporate responsibility for the region and, above all, our employees, in Dortmund and around the world. The Health Cube is a striking expression of our unwavering values as a family business”, stated Hermes, who is the fifth generation to lead the water technology group.

Wilo CEO Oliver Hermes, Karl-Josef Laumann, Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, and Alexander Kalouti, Lord Mayor of the City of Dortmund, opened the new health centre during a festive inauguration ceremony at Wilopark. Afterwards, numerous employees took the opportunity to visit the new building and find out more about what the Health Cube has to offer.

Health Minister and Lord Mayor honour the project

Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann honoured the company’s commitment in his welcoming address: “The Health Cube is an impressive and exemplary model of how a company can show its commitment to employees, but also to the people of the region, in the area of health. The centre combines preventive services and medical care by means of an innovative and modern concept. I am delighted that this will benefit Wilo employees and the people of Dortmund and the surrounding area.”

Lord Mayor Alexander Kalouti also emphasised the importance of the project for the region: “The Health Cube is an innovative place for health and prevention that will directly benefit Dortmund. The fact that Wilo is realising this concept in Dortmund is a real stroke of luck for healthcare in the city. And it shows how companies can remain attractive to employees: by putting people and their well-being first, even in the age of AI.”

With the opening of the Health Cube, the last of the construction projects at Wilopark has been completed for the time being after an effective construction period of just over two years. The material-friendly and low-carbon timber-frame construction suspended with a wooden façade and partition walls made of lightweight lumber meets high requirements for sustainability. “The Health Cube is the final piece of the puzzle for the largest site development project in Wilo’s corporate history. And yet its construction is only logical: At Wilo, people have always taken centre stage. Our Group headquarters must also reflect this”, Hermes concluded.

Wilo used the opening of the Health Cube to provide information about another milestone in corporate healthcare: a corporate health insurance scheme with its partner SIGNAL IDUNA. Wilo will give each employee an annual health budget, which can be spent on numerous preventive services that go well beyond the benefits provided by statutory health insurance.
